This year I was fortune enough to have the opportunity to take part in a bloggers secret Santa, thoughtfully orchestrated by the loveliness that is Casey, who you can find over at – http://casestreetx.blogspot.com/ . Casey is a wonderfully kind, and beautifully hearted, mental health blogger. We started following each other on twitter earlier this year, but when she tweeted asking who would be up for a bloggers secret Santa, I knew I wanted to be a part of it.
My blogging has been pretty inconsistent from the start, I’ve never had a set blogging schedule, and my blog follows no theme. In truth my blog is a total jumble. But the twitter blogging community has never made me feel bad about that. If I can offer one piece of advice to anyone newly starting out in blogging, it’s to get yourself on twitter! Honestly, the blogging community over there is the one. I feel like I have become part of something really special. The support people offer up to strangers on twitter, is heart warming. In truth, my blog would probably be a complete and utter flop with about 2 regular viewers, if it weren’t for the support from my twitter family. So, back to Secret Santa- Yes, I was super keen to get involved, get to know some of this community a little better, and give a little something back!
In October, I had an invite from Elfster, and was added into the bloggers secret Santa twitter chat, and from there on out, we’ve all been able to connect, and get to know each other a lot better. The sisterhood, as I like to call it. It was a mixed bunch of very different women, of various ages, from all corners of the UK, with varied interest and hobbies, and individually themed blogs.
Casey worked her ass off to make this work, as various individuals pulled out for many different reasons, after names were drawn, so partners had to be reassigned to ensure nobody was missed out. And she kept up with all the questions and queries within the group. I’ll be honest, arranging a secret Santa for a group of 47 people, who have mostly never met, was a job in itself. Cannot begin to thank Casey enough for sticking with it, and making this happen! It wasn’t plain sailing, but for each of us that saw it through, we are so very grateful to her. And what a wonderful way to embrace the season of good will, and togetherness.
So, we got our gifts together, and away they were sent! I should add, the budget was £10, but I strongly suspect that a few of us may have exceeded that. For my person to buy for, I made sure to follow her on various social media platforms and have a good look at her blog, to gauge what she might appreciate. Thankfully there was also a wish list feature on the Elfster page we used to draw names, so I did have some helpful guidance! So, I went on to send the lovely Abbie, at http://smallbeauty.co.uk/, her requested item- a super cute pamper gift set from Superdrug, as well as some truffles, a Christmas tree decoration, some cute battery operated fairy lights, some novelty Christmas socks, and a pack of scented tea light candles. It was all things I knew I’d have loved, so I was quietly confident that Abbie would also love them. Now received she knows that her gifts were from me, and thankfully, was really pleased! Giving is my favourite at Christmas, so I was anxiously checking to see if she’d opened her gift yet, and what her reaction was. Safe to say, I sighed a big old sigh of relief when her reaction came into the group, and she expressed just how much she loved it all, and how grateful she was! If you are reading this Abbie, I am so so pleased, and wish you a very Merry Christmas! It was a pleasure buying for such a lovely girl! You deserve it.
Next we go on to my present! Firstly the pop up box I received it in was gorgeous, and as soon as I untied the ribbon, to the fold out with an envelope attached, I knew that whoever my Secret Santa was, she had put a lot of thought into it. There was also a piece of paper enclosed, explaining that each gift was wrapped individually, and then there would be a mini stocking with some extra treats!
First I peered into the stocking, where I happily discovered a deliciously scented body shop hand cream, a Lindt chocolate teddy bear (always a great shout!!), and the most fabulous ombré unicorn make-up brushes. I mean, this girl has done her research, because I’ve been wanting these kind of brushes for a while! 🦄 And the purple tip is beautiful! So, next I went on to open the larger presents. I carefully unwrapped some bath fizzers, and the most heavenly smelling bodyshop shower gel. My bath time goodies stash has looked pretty pathetic recently, so I was more than happy with these lovely treats! My secret Santa had already exceed my expectations, and I was a very happy bunny. Finally, I came to the last gift. I tore into it, and literally squealed when I saw it!
I am a coffee addict. It’s no secret. I bloody love coffee. Coffee is life. Coffee is the fuel of life. And I’m all about them Christmas flavours! So I was thrilled with my Christmas pudding flavour coffee! And I hadn’t tried this flavour yet, which made me all the more excited. I have since tasted it, and it’s absolutely gorgeous. My Secret Santa did a bloody good job. I loved it all. And it was really clear that she had done her research, and thought through everything that she was sending me. I now know my Secret Santa to be Laura, over at http://www.lthornberry.co.uk/, and I am super thankful to her for sending my such beautiful, thoughtful gifts!
In all honesty, the past couple of days had been tough, due to personal circumstances, involving my dog attempting to poison herself to death. -Fortunately since, she has been treated, there’s no damage done, and she’s now back home just in time for Christmas. Anywho, my point is, that I was a bit of an emotional wreck anyway, but the loveliness in this package made my heart feel so very thankful, and it bought a great big smile to my face! If you’re reading this, thank you SO much Laura! I love my gifts. You did an AMAZING job, and you bought me a lot of joy, during a time that I was feeling super stressed. Your kindness went a long way, and I’m very grateful.
We were all pretty much strangers until Casey created our little secret Santa group, but I feel like I’ve made some wonderful friends through this experience, and I have thoroughly enjoyed building that festive suspense, and being part of something absolutely wonderful!
I hope all the girls will be up to doing it all over again next year. And again, I’d like to take this opportunity to say a big THANK YOU to the amazing Casey!
Lots of Love
